Process for credit creation through the Regen Registry program

Regen Registry emphasizing grassroots involvement in credit creation by offering a diverse range of credit type development and protocols tailored to various environmental efforts.

Choose one:

step 1

Use an existing credit protocol

We have credit protocols for soil organic carbon, biochar, vineyard grazing, biodiversity, and more. Explore our innovative credit protocols and contact Regen Registry for more information if you think your project is eligible for use with an existing protocol.

Is my project eligible for the CarbonPlus Grasslands Credit?

All 3 eligibility considerations must be true in order to apply for the CarbonPlus Grasslands protocol:

  • Is your management activity an approved regenerative grasslands and/grazing activity?
  • Any management activity approved by the Carbon Farming Initiative related to grasslands and/or grazing.
  • Any conservation practice approved by the California Department of Food and Agriculture Healthy Soils Program related to grasslands and/or grazing.
What is the process for using an existing protocol

Contact registry@regen.network and we can help connect you with the protocol authors to discuss usage.

Can I use a protocol from another registry to issue credits on Regen Marketplace

Yes - you need to contact the author of the method to ask about usage. If you have already done this for the the projects than you should be able to sell the credits created from the protocol on any markets that you would like.

step 2

Register your project

The credit protocol author will usually have a project plan template that you can fill out. Individual project plans can be submitted below or through the project developer. The plan must align with and meet all the requirements laid out in the protocol

Why do I need a project plan?

Because it's required!

step 3

Monitor and verify changes according to the methodology

Some projects have historical monitoring and verification reports that can be used to issue credits for past changes in ecosystem health. Otherwise, baseline project data should be collected early in the process so that credits can be issued more quickly. Project developers will provide you with a  monitoring template that is required to be completed for each monitoring period. Monitoring reports are submitted either via the project developer or using the form below.

step 1A

Create a protocol or edit an existing one

You can edit a protocol from our library, (including methodologies from a list of approved third party programs) or create a new one. New protocols must go through our Internal and Expert Peer Review process as part of our Registry Program. Review fees apply and legal agreements with Regen Network Development PBC are required. Create a protocol page and sell credits

Project developers play a key role in facilitating the issuance of credits onto Regen Ledger and are often engaged in the sales and marketing of credits. The first step is to create a presence on the Marketplace through submission of a Protocol Page. The Regen Network team can also provide support, subject to a fee.

Join in the creation of diverse and impactful methodologies for nature-based solutions

In addition to developing protocols  focused on carbon reduction and removal, we also work to incorporate protocols to track water, biodiversity, pollution management, changing weather patterns, and more.
ecological outcomes

Carbon sequestration

Sequestering carbon in SOC is one way to mitigate climate change.

Above ground biomass

Increasing all living biomass which is located above the ground.

Soil health

Healthy soil acts as a vital living ecosystem that sustains plants, animals, and humans.

Animal welfare

Animals play an important role in the maintenance of balance in an ecosystem.

Ecosystem health

Robust ecosystems provide a home for humans, plants, and animals to flourish.

Enhance biodiversity

The diversity of plants and animals is of vital importance to our well-being.

It also outlines the general requirements for the quantification, monitoring, reporting, verification (MRV), project registration, administration and issuance of credits, and governance of the registry standards.
